Craftsman and Wolves

By Author:

Amber Turpin

It has been just over a year since the astounding San Francisco bakery Craftsman and Wolves opened its first and only location outside of the city at The Dean development in Mountain View. Even though innovative, design-minded baker and founder Lawrence Lai passed away just over a month before the Mountain View location opened, his creative vision lives on under Executive Chef Samantha Ceccotti’s leadership. Lai had ties to the Peninsula, having raised his kids in Redwood City, and eventually launching Craftsman and Wolves as a stall at the Palo Alto Farmers Market.

Their best-known product, The Rebel Within, is a savory muffin with a soft-cooked egg baked inside. You’ll also find some exclusive, Peninsula-only creations like the twisted hot honey croissant helix, filled with jalapeño cheddar béchamel as well as seasonal pastries and viennoiserie made just for this outpost. They have a robust menu of sandwiches and interesting drinks, like the Lime Wire, with housemade sparkling limeade, espresso and candied lime, or the Black Tonic with elderflower tonic, espresso and lemon.
